Fallback supply

The most important facts

What is fallback supply?
Fallback supply is an automatic replacement supply of electricity when there is no longer a valid electricity supply contract – for example because your previous supplier fails, or your contract ends and no new supply contract has been concluded. The purpose of fallback supply is to ensure continuous electricity supply and avoid an interruption to your supply.

When do I enter fallback supply?
You enter fallback supply if:

  • your electricity supply contract ends and you have not chosen a new supplier, or
  • your previous electricity supplier stops supplying electricity or fails.

Important:
If you actively terminate your electricity supply contract yourself, you are not entitled to fallback supply.

Do I have to do anything – or do I automatically enter fallback supply?
The switch to fallback supply is carried out automatically by your grid operator.
You will receive information from us about:

  • the start of fallback supply,
  • the applicable contract terms, and
  • your options for switching supplier.

You therefore do not need to take any action for the time being and can switch to another electricity supplier at any time.

Why am I supplied with electricity by SWITCH?
SWITCH is a brand of ENERGIEALLIANZ Austria GmbH. As an affiliated group company, ENERGIEALLIANZ Austria handles fallback supply on behalf of EVN Energievertrieb GmbH & Co KG, Wien Energie Vertrieb GmbH & Co KG and BE Vertrieb GmbH & Co KG.

How long does fallback supply last / how long am I supplied under it?
Under fallback supply, you will be supplied with electricity for a maximum of 6 months. Within this period, you should conclude a new electricity supply contract. If you do not switch to a regular electricity supplier within this period, this may result in your electricity meter being disconnected.

How are the prices for fallback supply determined?
The energy consumption price (work price) is determined quarterly based on the calculation formula specified by E-Control. It is based on market-standard exchange prices for electricity.
The work price for the period from 01.04.2026 to 30.06.2026 is:

14.52 cents/kWh (incl. 20% VAT) for households

12.53 cents/kWh (excl. 20% VAT) for small businesses

Please note that, as part of fallback supply from SWITCH, you will only receive a bill for the energy supply. Network costs are billed separately by your grid operator.

Can I switch to another supplier at any time?
Yes, you can switch to another electricity supplier of your choice at any time. Switching is even expressly recommended, as fallback supply is only a temporary solution for a limited period.
